Rules of use of Loimaa City Library
Loimaa City Library is part of the Loisto libraries. The other Loisto libraries are Aura, Koski Tl, Marttila, Oripää and in Pöytyä the libraries of Kyrön, Riihikoski and Ylänee. The rules of use of the Loisto libraries are essentially the same.
The library is a public service open to all. The library’s collections, services and public areas are open to all who follow the rules of use.
Library card
You can obtain a library card by presenting a photo ID and providing your contact details. The customer must have a postal address in Finland. If you do not have a Finnish personal identity code, you only need to provide your date of birth.
Children can have their own library card and the first card is issued at the age of 5. Children under 15 years of age can obtain a library card with the written consent of their guardian or adult responsible person. A person who is not allowed to borrow may not become a guarantor or responsible person.
A kindergarten, school, other institution or community may obtain a community card, for which a designated responsible person is required.
The library card is personal. The holder of a library card is responsible for the material borrowed by a person under 15 years of age or by a community on his/her card or guaranteed by him/her. By obtaining a library card, the customer agrees to abide by the library’s rules of use.
Any change of address or name must be reported to the library. Contact details can be checked at the library or by logging in to your own details in the online library. If the card is lost, the library must be informed immediately. The customer is not responsible for any material borrowed with a lost card after it has been reported lost.
You will need a password to log in to the online library. The identification number can be obtained from the library when registering as a borrower or later after proof of identity has been provided. It is not given by telephone or e-mail.
User data protection
The library has the right to use the personal identification number in its register of borrowers (Personal Data Act 523/1999, § 13). All information relating to the patron and his/her transactions is confidential. The information in the register will not be disclosed to third parties.
According to the Personal Data Act, the customer has the right to check what information about him/her is stored in the library’s borrower records. The description of the register of borrowers is available at the library and on the library’s website.
Citation and return
The library decides on the loan periods for materials. The loan period ends on the due date. The amount of material borrowed by a customer at one time and held by the customer may be limited.
Loans can be renewed five times at the library, by telephone or online with a personal ID. Renewal is not possible if there are reservations or if the customer has lost his/her borrowing rights.
The age limits for borrowing photo albums and console games are respected. The library is not liable for any damage to the customer’s equipment caused by the borrowed material.
Customers may order interlibrary loans of material that is not available in Loimaa City Library or other Loisto libraries. The interlibrary loan service is subject to the national interlibrary loan rules and the terms and conditions of the lending library. The service is subject to a fee and the customer must have a Loisto Libraries library card.
Loans must be returned by the due date. Materials can be returned to any Loisto library during library opening hours. Some libraries have a return hatch. Returning loans to the drop box is at the customer’s own risk.
The customer may receive a reminder of the approaching due date by e-mail. The reminder is free of charge. The library is not responsible for the receipt of reminders of the due date.
There is no charge for reserving library materials. The reserved material must be collected within 10 days of the date of dispatch of the notification of arrival. A fee will be charged for uncollected reservations.
Fees and reimbursement of material
A reminder fee must be paid for material for which a late notice has been sent. A fee will also be charged in the event of a failure to renew the loan due to an outage or other technical failure of the online library.
Lost or damaged material must be replaced by equivalent material or by paying a price determined by the library. Due to the copyright fee per copy, a photographic recording cannot be replaced by a corresponding recording. The library may transfer its claim to the collection agency.
