Cityspotting® Loimaa & Auranmaa

Cityspotting is a browser-based concept combining urban exploration, nature, and physical activity, offering users a rich blend of city knowledge, exercise, and natural beauty. The adventure is sure to take users to places they have never visited before. The purpose of Cityspotting is to strengthen users’ connection to their hometown and to physical activity through positively gamified and partially dramatized content.

The Cityspotting adventure includes 100 locations in the rich surroundings of Loimaa and Auranmaa. The adventure covers the following towns: Aura, Koski Tl, Loimaa, Marttila, Oripää, and Pöytyä.

The adventure is being implemented as part of the “Exploring the Loimaa Region” project and has received EU rural development funding; the funding was provided by Leader Jokivarsikumppanit. The adventure is free of charge for users.

“We wanted to foster regional cooperation and inspire residents of all ages to be more active. Through Cityspotting, we found a new, inspiring way to boost well-being, learn about the local environment, and strengthen the region’s appeal. At the same time, it offers travelers an immersive way to experience the municipalities of the Loimaa region,” comments Eija Martti, project leader of the “Exploring the Loimaa Region” initiative.

The Loimaa and Auranmaa region is home to a wealth of historical treasures, natural mysteries, and forgotten stories. This adventure includes 26 sites in Loimaa.

“Loimaa is full of surprises! We guarantee that the unique public art, exceptionally relocated buildings, and some of Southwest Finland’s finest natural gems will amaze you. Loimaa’s spots include, among others, the winner of a major park competition, a bewildering hidden museum, and sacrificial cups in a Monopoly-like landscape,” comments Mikko Rinnevuori, the adventure content producer.

Cityspotting is produced by the Jyväskylä-based growth company Fennoscandic Simulation Systems Oy, founded by Mikko Rinnevuori of Helsinki and Sami Toivanen of Jyväskylä. The first Cityspotting adventures launched in Helsinki and Jyväskylä in the spring of 2020. Now there are urban destinations all over Finland, and the city adventure spots have already been visited over 150,000 times. The conquest of Finland continues; the company’s goal is to revolutionize the fitness and tourism industry in a cool and groundbreaking way.
