Guided summer exercise sessions 2026
The Sports Services are organising supervised exercise groups for adults this summer, running from 1 June to 16 July 2026. Some of the groups will finish during Midsummer week. You’re welcome to join these free, accessible summer exercise groups. The groups are open to everyone. There is no need to register in advance. During the sessions, you can adjust the intensity of the exercise to suit your own comfort level.
Please bring weather-appropriate clothing, a hat, a water bottle, sunglasses and, if necessary, a yoga mat to the classes. Classes are cancelled in the event of heavy rain.
Monday
- 9–10 am: Exercise for well-being, Alastaro Hall courtyard and/or hall (Vahvalantie 4). Focus on muscle strength, flexibility and balance. You are welcome to join this group even if you use a walking aid. Runs until 13 July.
- 11.00–11.45 Chair exercises in the stands, Hirvikoski Athletics Ground (Kuusitie 1). Seated muscle strength and mobility exercises. A few chairs are also available on site. You are also welcome to join this group with a mobility aid. Runs until 13 July.
- 2.00–2.45 pm Chair exercises at Kalliohovi in Metsämaa (Metsämaantie 618). Seated muscle strength and mobility exercises. You are welcome to join this group even if you use a mobility aid. Runs until 13 July.
- 3.30–4.30 pm Stair training: work up a sweat and boost your fitness. This class is suitable for beginners and those looking for a challenge. Loimaa fitness stairs (Vesitorninkuja 11). Runs until 13 July.
Tuesday
- 10–11 am Outdoor gym & exercise class. A variety of strength and balance exercises using the outdoor gym equipment in Central Park (Heimolinnankatu 7). You are also welcome to join this group if you use a mobility aid. Runs until 16 June.
- 13:00–14:00 Group walk: a gentle stroll and some light exercise. We set off from the Hirvihovi car park (Kuusitie 1). You are welcome to join this group even if you use a mobility aid. Runs until 14 July.
- 2–3 pm Forest Fitness Centre, meeting point at Hirvilaavu (Kuusitie 1). The Forest Fitness Centre offers a wide range of opportunities for a full-body workout. The sessions improve both physical fitness and mental wellbeing. Runs until 14 July.
- 4.30–5.30 pm Fitness training. A varied workout using equipment and your own body weight. At the high jump area of the Hirvikoski athletics ground (Kuusitie 1). Please bring a water bottle and your own mat. Runs until 14 July.
- 5.30–6.30 pm: Body maintenance at the Hirvihovi athletics ground (Kuusitie 1). Please bring a water bottle and your own mat. Runs until 14 July.
Wednesday
- 9–10 am Outdoor gym & exercise class. A variety of strength and balance exercises in the playground of Kirkonkylä School (Aapiskuja 5). Runs until 17 June.
- 13:00–14:00 Chair exercises in the stands & group walk. In the stands of the pesäpallo stadium (Sammonkatu 6). 30 minutes of exercises and 30 minutes of walking. You can choose walking, exercise or a combination of both. Seated muscle strength and mobility exercises. You can also take part in this group with an aid. Runs until 17 June.
- 2.30–3.30 pm Forest gym in Mellilä. Meet in front of Ostar (Sahantie 3). Nature’s own equipment offers a wide range of opportunities for strength and balance training. The sessions improve both physical fitness and mental wellbeing. Runs until 17 June.
Thursday
- 10–11 am: Exercise for well-being at Hirvikoski Athletics Ground (Kuusitie 1). Focus on muscle strength, flexibility and balance. You are welcome to join this group even if you use a mobility aid. Runs until 16 July.
- 10.00–10.45 am Chair exercises in the stands, Alastaro Athletics Ground stands / Kirkonkylä School Hall (Aapiskuja 5). Seated muscle strength and flexibility exercises. Runs until 18 June.
- 11.30am–12.30pm Adapted exercise (SoveLi) Hirvihovi hall/outdoor area (Kuusitie 1). Chair-based exercises for muscle strength, balance and mobility, as well as games. You may participate in this group with your own carer and assistive devices if required. Runs until 16 July.
- 4.30–5.30 pm: Fitness class in the outdoor area/gym at the Town Hall (Ylistaronkatu 36). A varied workout using equipment and your own body weight. Please bring a water bottle and your own mat. Runs until 18 June.
The UKK walking test and the Cooper test
On Wednesday 3 June, you are welcome to come and test your fitness with the Cooper test or the UKK walking test at the Hirvikoski athletics ground. The UKK walking test (6 mins) starts at 4 pm and the Cooper test starts at 5 pm. The last participants will be sent off at 5.30 pm. The tests are free of charge. You are welcome to bring your own heart rate monitor.
All summer sessions are free of charge. Come along on your own or with a friend!
