Ice and ski information on January 8th 2026

The turn of the year has been a busy one for sports facility managers and their co-working partners who maintain sports facilities. In addition to cleaning up after storm Hannes, the freezing temperatures and snowfall have accelerated the preparation of skating rinks and ski trails.

Skating rinks
In many places, the ice is in reasonable condition for skating. The ice rinks at schools have been frozen. There are also skating rinks in other locations around the city.

Ski trails
The Alastaro loop, Juva, Eteläinen, Sports Center (no lighting due to storm damage), and Kertunmäki, Hirvikoski have been groomed. It is not yet possible to use a snow mobile. Due to the lack of snow, there is sand and ice in places on the trails, so caution is advised.

The Harjureitti trail has been groomed and a traditional ski trail has been made near the motor track parking lot, but there is not enough snow there either, and the ground cover and soil are visible.

Traditional cross-country trails have not yet been made, as there is still little snow in places and the ground is visible. More snow is hoped for so that the trail bases can be prepared and the trails groomed. You can try out the trails in a free style. It is not yet advisable to try out new equipment.
