Vesikoski mill

The Vesikoski museum mill is located in Vesikoski on the north bank of Loimijoki, 2 km from the center of Loimaa. The old, log mill building is from 1888, but before that, grain has been milled in the rapids since the 15th century. At the end of the 16th century, there were four year-round, simple foot mills in Vesikoski in the middle of Loimaa’s grain harvests.

12 houses belonged to the partners of the mill sect of the old side. The equipment and water opening of the Vesikoski mill took their current shape in 1935, and grinding ended in 1963. The museum mill, rented and renovated by the city, was opened to the public in 1979 and can be visited by appointment.

Along with mills, there has been machine shops in the rapids since the end of the 19th century, Vesikoski has had a nail factory, a grindery, a paper factory, an electricity plant and a tannery. The buildings of the tannery have been repaired for versatile cultural use.
