The library’s autumn 2025 events season gets off to a lively start
In September, we will return to normal opening hours, and events, reading circles, lectures, and short story clubs will also begin. Changes to the autumn program are possible.
On September 2 at 2 p.m. at the main library, Jaana Savolainen, an educator from the Consumers’ Union, will give a lecture entitled “Recognizing Online Scams,” which will introduce online and telephone scams and their characteristics.
October is Senior Citizens’ Week, during which you can attend the lecture “Getting to know artificial intelligence: practical examples for seniors” at the SeniorSurf remote viewing room at the main library on Tuesday, October 7, from 1 to 2 p.m. In addition, the library will be presenting its services at the Well-being for Seniors fair in Hirvihovi on Thursday, October 9.
On Wednesday, October 15, during the autumn break week (42), the main library’s Superhero Day will feature activities for families with children, such as superhero mask crafts, badge making, and face painting.
In November, journalist and author Maxim Fedorov will be appearing at the main library. Fedorov has been a correspondent for Yle in Kiev since May 2022 and has published two books on Ukraine: Minun Ukrainani (My Ukraine, Docendo, 2023) and Sodan näyttämöt (The Stages of War, Docendo, 2024). The visit will take place on Monday, November 3, at 4:30 p.m.
In December, Loimaa libraries will once again participate in the Christmas Mail for Seniors campaign, which collects Christmas greetings for elderly clients of home care and housing services. Last year, nearly 800 cards were collected. In addition, the Hirvikoski Library will host its traditional Christmas Stocking Campaign.
Regular events
In the Open Reading Circle, participants read the same book in advance and discuss it. The reading circle led by Tarja Nikander meets once a month on Tuesdays at 12 noon at the main library. The first meeting of the fall will be on Tuesday, September 16, when Kjell Westö’s Molly & Henry (2023) will be discussed. Books have been reserved for reading circle members at the main library.
The Book Recommendations reading circle is a place to give and receive reading recommendations. The themes for the reading circle are decided together, and the books to be presented are selected according to these themes. The reading circle meets once a month on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at the main library. It is led by librarian Katja Isotalo. The first reading circle of the fall will be held on Wednesday, September 10.
The Studia Generalia lecture series is held in the newspaper room of the main library once a month on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. This fall, the topics will include nutrition for seniors and new nutritional recommendations, the birth of Loimaa, and Japan. The lectures are organized in cooperation between the main library and the Loimaa Adult Education Center. The lectures will begin on Thursday, October 9.
The Short Story club (Novellikoukku) is a place to listen to short stories and do crafts if you want. Novellikoukku sessions are held once a month at the main library and the Hirvikoski library: Novellikoukku sessions at the main library begin on Wednesday, September 3, at 6 p.m., and at the Hirvikoski library on Thursday, September 18, at 4:30 p.m. Novellikoukku sessions will also be held on a trial basis at the Alastaro and Mellilä libraries during the fall.
Story times can be held in all libraries at separately agreed times, for example for daycare groups.
There are facilities for exhibitions in the main library and the Alastaro library. Please contact the library if you are interested in holding an exhibition. Please familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions for using and reserving the library facilities.
