Ski and ice information on February 16th 2026

Updated February 16, 2026

The cold weather has kept conditions good for outdoor activities, and now the winter break is the perfect time to go skiing or skating. Saturday, February 21, is also National Ski Day, which is a great reason to take the whole family out on the trails. The trails and ice rinks are maintained continuously according to weather conditions.

Ski trails

There has been little snow this winter, which has affected the maintenance of the trails, but there has been enough frost. The trails are being actively maintained, and a few field trails have been groomed for the enjoyment of city residents. For example, there are smooth trails on Pölkintie and Juvan peltolatu, as well as around the Pema Arena at the Sports Center. The lack of snow is still visible in places on the trails in the form of debris and vegetation, so caution is advised.

The Kertunmäki trail network is in good condition (with some gravel in places on the shooting range terrain). Juva has been groomed with a snowmobile, but only part of the trail has been groomed, and the rear section is in slightly poorer condition. The forest trail is uneven and there are icy patches in the forest section. The Melliläjärvi trail has been groomed and includes hills and one more challenging curved descent.

The Harjureitti trail has been groomed almost entirely, with the exception of Isosuo. Firewood has been replenished at the Harjureitti trail shelters, so there is plenty of warmth for hikers at the rest stops.

The lighting on the jogging tracks is timed to operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the exception of the jogging track at the Sports Center. The lighting on the Sports Center jogging track will not be repaired until the summer. The trails around the Pema Arena (Sammonkatu 6) at the Sports Center are open and lit up in the evenings too.

Up-to-date information on skiing opportunities in Loimaa and the surrounding area can also be found by following the Loimaan Lehti newspaper’s Hiihto Niilot ja Nellit Facebook group. The group publishes updates on the condition of the trails from both trail maintainers and other skiers.

Skating rinks

The skating rinks are in good condition throughout the area. There are skating rinks in different parts of the city and in the villages. The city’s own staff, partners, and volunteers are involved in maintaining the rinks. Skating rinks and addresses can be found on the Loimaa city website: Skating rinks

The Loimaa Ice Hall offers consistently reliable conditions for skating, with family skating sessions on Mondays and Fridays and recreational skating sessions on Thursdays. See more information at Exercise for children and young people. The sessions are intended for all ages.
