The City of Loimaa website is now also available in English

The City of Loimaa has taken a major step towards a more international service: the city’s website now also provides key information in English. This new feature makes it easier for international residents, students and tourists to access information and helps to make the area more attractive.

The English-language website provides key information on the city’s services. The website will showcase Loimaa’s cultural offerings, sports facilities and natural beauty spots, making the city an attractive place to live and visit. Events and current affairs will also be added in English where possible.

A practical and accessible service for all

The English version is aimed specifically at internationals living in the Loimaa region and tourists who want to get to know the city in advance. The site is easily accessible: you can select the language version at the top of the website by clicking on the “EN” button.

There is a clear need for an English-language site: the level of internationalisation in the city has clearly increased and the number of destination enquiries from tourists is growing every year. Although English is not the most familiar language for everyone, it is by far one of the most widely used. We want to offer the opportunity to get to know Loimaa better through housing, early childhood education and learning, and leisure services, not forgetting employment, entrepreneurship and administration.

“We want to make sure that all citizens and visitors feel welcome. The English-language website will contribute to accessibility and the international attractiveness of the area,” says Paavo Laaksonen, Development Director.

Not all the Finnish pages have been translated, so work is still ongoing. Updates to the content are constantly being made, including the change of the employment services to become part of the municipality’s services at the turn of the year, which will lead to further changes in the content of the page texts. As soon as the Finnish texts are ready for publication, they will be translated into English.

“The translation process has been carried out using state-of-the-art technology, an AI-based translation program. The AI has advanced tremendously, but still requires a lot of checking, as it may suggest a translation for headlines, for example, that does not match the content. Reading content requires accuracy and vocabulary knowledge,” says Heidi Cavén, Marketing and Communications Designer. The city’s communications team will help with proofreading. Despite careful reading, there may exist errors on the site, so please use the feedback page to let us know of any errors.
